Recently, I set up a simple system to run The Okrēo’s first multi-creative challenge. Here’s how I put it together, tools included.

To make it action-oriented I’ve formatted it as a checklist.

1. Define the goal of the challenge

What’s your challenge going to do?

2. Build a signup page for the challenge (I used Carrd)

I used Carrd to do this in an evening.

You can see the page here: https://challenge.theokreo.com

3. Link the signup to an email marketing tool (I used ConvertKit)

Email marketing 101! Upon signing up, you get an email from me (via ConvertKit) to confirm your email and immediately get the prompt.

4. Segment challenge signups and start an email sequence (still ConvertKit)

After confirming, you get redirected to a page with all the challenge details on it (plus the link to submit). It also tags challengers in ConvertKit.

5. Build a form for submissions (I used Airtable)

I built a simple database in Airtable and created a form view of it. The email sequence and the challenge detail page both point to the form as the final touchpoint of the challenge.

6. Create some simple, short content to promote the challenge (I used TikTok, YouTube, Instagram)

7. Follow up with creatives who complete the challenge directly (personal message)

I want follow ups with anyone that completes the challenge to be personal, so I’m doing it all manually.

I realize that this is elementary to anyone who’s ever marketed anything. This is a no-fluff checklist for anyone who’s approaching it for the first time. And for future-me.
