Improv Finder is a platform I built to help people interested in doing improv to find and participate in improv groups and activities.

The website is a directory of active improv groups in the Greater San Diego area that makes it easier to find upcoming improv events and be part of the local improv community.

Features

  • Up-to-date directory: An index of local improv groups and activities.
  • Search: Search to easily find relevant events and groups.
  • Group listings: Info on active improv groups including locations and links to their calendar and group details.
  • Contribute: Forms to add (and update) improv groups info on the platform.

Development Process

I developed Improv Finder with a user-centric approach, focusing on the core user experience of someone who was looking to find improv activities near them as quickly as possible.

I used the Makestack/Kreos methodology to:

  • Track progress up to and beyond v1.0
  • Maintain project assets, knowledge and backlogs
  • Continuously improve the platform while working on it part-time

Key challenges included ensuring data accuracy and keeping the platform up-to-date, which I addressed by developing simple data validation processes and implementing regular content reviews.

Contributors

Special thanks to the San Diego improv community, its players, its facilitators, and the venues that give us a space to be ourselves.
